Club DJing - 1pm Saturday 3rd October

Raw talent or just luck – Is there a formula to getting noticed?

How do you move from your bedroom to a club and then from resident to superstar?

This session is for aspiring DJs who want to know more about the industry, bedroom DJs who want to play out in clubs and resident DJs who want to move to the next level.

The Panel
Carl Kennedy
In October 2003 when Pete Tong, of BBC’s Radio 1, proclaimed Carl Kennedy as ‘one of the world’s best undiscovered DJs’, he clearly was able to see what vast numbers of club goers were soon to discover; that Carl was destined to become a big name in dance music. If one man was responsible for inspiring Kennedy to take the DJing path, then it would be dance music icon Roger Sanchez when he played a set at Ibiza’s Privilege (the largest club in the world) in front of 10 000 people in 1997. Carl was there to witness the mayhem and it will forever be etched in his memory. As if fulfilling some kind of pre-determined destiny, Carl was to play the famous club five years on and smash it up in the same devastating fashion that his hero, the blazing ‘S Man’ did all those years before.
David Dunne
David Dunne’s DJ career spans over twenty years behind the decks and more than 17 years of playing dance music on the Radio. In 1989 he found himself on Manchester’s Piccadilly Radio during the heady days of “Madchester” presenting “The Isometric Dance Class” - the only radio show playing the huge tunes clubbers were experiencing at legendary Manchester venues such as the Hacienda, Legends and Konspiracy. At that time he gave DJs such as Justin Robertson, Mike Pickering and Jon Da Silva their first radio exposure.
Mark Luvdup
Mark ‘Luvdup’ van den Berg has been entertaining clubbers the world over for over twenty-seven years. With his unbridled sense of humour, notorious clubbing antics and brilliant selection of energetic and funky party music, Mark is one of the most instantly recognisable characters in worldwide clubbing. Mark has played in every major club in the land as well as throughout Europe and beyond. Canada, Australia, the USA, Russia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong and South Africa are all visited regularly - as well as Ibiza's massive Sundance parties (made infamous by the 'Ibiza Uncovered' series), Cyprus, Greece, Bulgaria, Latvia and the Netherlands.
Shaun 'Banger' Scott
Shaun ‘Banger’ Scott has lived and breathed DJing since he was a teenager and in his career to date has accomplished every musicians dream. He has progressed from being a successful pub DJ, to a club DJ, to building an international reputation. He has played at festivals, appeared in music videos as well as produced and released records that have smashed dance-floors all over the world. His biggest achievement to date is pioneering the Speed Garage sound that influenced and shaped the Bassline music he is globally renowned for, which has earned him the regard ‘Godfather of Bassline’.
Big Al
Big Al is one of the UK’s most respected dance music figures. From his first gig at his local youth club, to the present day he has played more than a two thousand gigs, which has earned him recognition and respect from all the scenes premier league DJ's. His faultless mixing and perfect programming has earned him plays all over the world from South America to Asia including Judgement Sunday's-Ibiza, Pacha-Buenos Aires, Babyface-China and his weekly residency at one of the UK's sexiest nightclubs, Liquid-Cardiff.
